South Africa is as diverse as the people that live here and call it home, with 11 official languages it is a true mix of cultures, hence the reference to South Africa as “The Rainbow Nation”.

South Africa is the world’s 32nd largest country as measured by land area with a coastline that measures 2954 kilometres.

By measuring land area alone South Africa is twice the size of France and nearly four times bigger than Germany.

The currency is measured in Rand’s and Cent’s of which 1 Rand is the equivalent of 100 cents.

The world’s first heart transplant was performed in Cape Town in 1967 by Dr Chris Barnard.

South Africa is the world leader in mining precious metals and minerals, with the country’s wealth being built on its vast resources.

South Africans by nature love their sport therefore it is no coincidence that we have the largest individual timed cycling race in the world (The Cape Argus Cycling Race), the world’s largest ultra-marathon (The Comrades Marathon) and the largest inland yacht race on the Vaal Dam (Round the Island race)

The Cape peninsula National Park has more plant species within its boundaries than the entire British Isles or New Zealand as a whole.

The country itself is ranked first in the world for its Floral Kingdom.

South Africa’s climate is warm and temperate with sunshine generally throughout the year.

The Tugela Falls in Kwazulu Natal is the world’s 2nd highest waterfall with the water tumbling a staggering 850 meters.

The longest wine route in the world can be found here, achieving almost a cult like status the famous Route 62.

Of the only 12 Countries in the world that supply tap water that is considered safe to drink, South Africa is ranked 3rd.
