Indigo is a classic beach house and provides the ideal base for a laid back holiday. Situated on one of Langebaan’s best and most private beaches, Sandbaai, the house has its toes in the sand and you literally walk from the front door out onto the beach. The shallow and protected lagoon waters are great for kids with the nearby rock pools providing hours of entertainment. Simply furnished with a west coast feel, it is fully equipped with everything that you might need for a seaside holiday.

The house sleeps 6-8 people in either 3 double bedrooms or 2 double bedrooms and one bunk room, with a bunk bed and 2 singles. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower, one with just a shower. Bedrooms are equipped with down duvets and pure cotton linen and all have lagoon views. Bath and beach towels are provided.

There are two spacious living areas, one at the rear of the house, opening on to a wind protected courtyard with braai area and hot outdoor shower and the other at the front, with direct access to the beach. All living areas have beautiful lagoon views. The front living area has a TV, DVD player, music system and DSTV. Some classic board and card games as well as some toys and beach paraphernalia is supplied. The open plan kitchen is equipped with a 5 plate gas stove with electric oven, a fridge/freezer and a microwave/convection oven. Housekeeping supplies and equipment are provided.

There is no washing machine (who wants to do laundry on holiday?) but there are numerous laundry services in town. Wooden floors in the bedrooms and cement screed throughout the rest of the house mean that beach sand is never a problem. To complete your perfect beach holiday, 2 Fluid Synergy sit on top kayaks as well as a Fluid Vaya for the kids, all complete with paddles and PFDs, are provided. Optional extras include the hire of a semi rigid inflatable. If you bring your own boat, you may use Indigo’s mooring in front of the house. There is also space on the beach to keep your Hobie.

INDIGO COTTAGE

New addition to the Indigo beach house, the Cottage is ideal for a smaller group or to be used in conjunction with the beach house to accommodate 3 full families.

There is a separate entrance and access to the beach through a fynbos path no more than 20m from the water.

The internationally famous owner has used all her artistic skills in creating the essence of sea inspired relaxation, with hints of Zen in the decor. Decorated throughout in pure white and creams, the soft linen bed drapes set off the outstanding deep blue of the Ocean. The brushed white wood style is reminiscent of the Caribbean and Cape Cod villas.

The villa is built on three levels, below the level of the road and next to the beach. Entrance is in to the top floor of the villa, which has an open plan kitchen, living and dining area and a large sea facing balcony. The second level has four bedrooms and three bathrooms with a sea facing balcony off the master bedroom. The third level is the ground floor with a second kitchen, living and dining area, a double bedroom and bathroom. This level opens onto the pool and patio area, which is separated from the beach by a high white fence. There is a gate from the pool deck that leads to the beach path.

Access to the villa is from Victoria Road on the northern approach to Camps Bay. Step off the street and descend a private stair way. The large wooden, Moroccan styled outdoor entrance way keeps the rest of the world at bay. Descend a further flight of steps, past the flowing water feature, and enter the villa’s top floor.

The first impression is of the high, white timber ceilings and views of the sea framed by the patio doors. There is a touch of salty freshness around you and the overhead fans ensure a light breeze even on the hottest days.

When you step onto the balcony the sea is right in front of you, stretching to the horizon. There are large comfortable outdoor chairs with big cushions where you can dream away your days listening to the sea,  soaking up the sun or enjoying cocktails as the sun sets in a golden ball.

The house was designed in the 1960’s  by Revel Fox, arguably South Africa’s most renowned architect. It is considered a South African architectural landmark. In 2009, major expansion & renovation was done keeping the original form while adding a second story over the front half of the house. Guest can enjoy a full and unobstructed views of the sea and Table Mountain from most rooms in the house.

Inside, the house has been totally renovated, with an all new kitchen, all new bathrooms, all new floors, all new everything. Master suites on both the first and second floors and two additional bedrooms (2 x twin beds each) downstairs, sleeping 8 in total.

Large and fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. Formal sitting and dining area on the lower level and large family room/TV room on the upper level. 3 full baths and a powder room. Overall, this is a large house, with 275 square meters +/- in floor area.

The house is furnished and outfitted to a high standard, with such amenities as walnut counter tops, European bath fixtures, Travertine marble floors, etc. WIFI (bring your own laptop or rent here), flat screen TV and under floor heating for those chilly winter nights.

Outside, guests will find a built-in wood-burning Braai (BBQ), a 6-foot California redwood hot tub with room for 6 and patios back and front. Use the back patio for privacy and the front patio to enjoy magnificent sunsets over the water.

Beyond the house, you have miles of white sand beach at your doorstep. Try kite surfing, if you are young and brave enough. Equipment and lessons available just down the street. You are walking distance to great restaurants like Ons Huisie, On the Rocks and Café Blouberg. Upscale shopping is minutes away. You are 5 minutes to great golf, 15-20 minutes to city center, and under 30 minutes to Clifton and Camps Bay, to the sports venues (cricket, rugby and soccer), and the wine routes. Life is really good here !
